Flooring trends in Atlanta area

We discussed in a different article about the trends in the flooring industry nationwide, as well as the people’s behavior when getting new flooring installed.

In this article we are going to discuss some of the trends in the Metro Atlanta area.  These are based on our experience and projects we have done or are in the works.

Between 2004-2007 when the housing market was booming and houses were practically built overnight, a very common flooring product was engineered hardwood flooring, accompanied by vinyl flooring for bathrooms and laundry rooms.

Another popular flooring product used during that period was carpet, seen in bedrooms, on stairs, in hallways and more. The main reason people put carpeting in their homes is the low price and the rapidity of installation, along with the soft feel.

As the Atlanta area has expanded, a bulk of new homes were built in subdivisions in  the North Metro area, Cumming, Dawsonville, Lawrenceville, Hamilton Mill and Gainesville.

In recent years the trend has changed. Houses are not built as fast as before and buyers have become more aware of the quality of the products in their homes.

Nowadays, the majority of the people purchasing flooring products are homeowners, and they are being careful when picking the floor for their houses.

In more established areas, where hardwood flooring was installed throughout the house, the majority of the floor projects are the hardwood refinishing ones. Some of these areas which we have done projects are Dunwoody,Roswell,Sandy Springs and Marietta.

In newer areas, laminate flooring gained momentum as quality has improved. The price and durability are desirable too. You do have to remember that laminate flooring is not hardwood, even if it looks like it; it is also a floating floor, it’s not glued or nailed to the sub floor.

Some areas we find several laminate flooring projects are the ones we talked earlier, built between 2004-2007. These include Cumming, Alpharetta, Hamilton Mill, Lawrenceville and Snellville.

Laminate floors are very popular in rental properties. Buckhead and Midtown being  areas with lots of renters. Laminate flooring is also a very popular product in apartment buildings.

These are treads in the Atlanta area, not rules!  You can choose the flooring product that fits no only your budget, but your lifestyle too.
